In order to become licensed to sell real estate in the state of Virginia, the candidate must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and complete 60 hours of real estate instruction from a state accredited school. The Weichert Real Estate School offers the Principles and Practices of Real Estate course to satisfy the 60-hour requirement. After successfully completing the course with a passing grade, candidates are required to pass a national and state exam administered by PSI (contracted by the state of Virginia to handle testing). The Virginia DPOR requires students to provide a passport quality photo to the school before completing the course. Candidates must apply for their real estate license within one year of passing the PSI exam. Before applying for their license, each candidate must submit a set of fingerprints to the Virginia Criminal Records Exchange.
